First pour for the super columns.
On September 11, 2009, the Florida Marlins conducted the first vertical concrete pour for the super columns of the new ballpark structure.
The pour constituted the first estimated16 feet of the nearly 40-foot tall rebar cage that was erected the previous week. When complete, the elliptical shaped column will stand approximately 8 feet wide by 15 feet long and will rise to 130 feet. The column is one of the twelve super columns that will support the relatively 8,300 ton Retractable Roof Structure, which is approximately the weight of the Eiffel Tower in France. The retractable roof is composed of three panels supported by a two-track system on the north and south sides of the ballpark. The first column pour was part of the north track system.
